Version 4.0.0 is now available
Nintendo has released the version 4.0.0 update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This is an update for the existing game rather than a separate release.
When played on Nintendo Switch 2, the game now offers clearer visuals and shorter loading times.
Multiplayer expands to eight players
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can support five to eight players in multiplayer when played on Nintendo Switch 2. The change gives existing owners another option for larger local play sessions on the newer system.

CameraPlay and gameplay adjustments
CameraPlay is supported when a compatible USB-C camera is connected.
- Smart Steering is now supported in Battle Mode
- Item probabilities have been adjusted
- Race speed increases according to the number of coins held

No separate paid upgrade price listed
The checked Nintendo materials did not list a separate paid upgrade price for version 4.0.0. Existing players can check that their software has been updated to the latest version before playing on Switch 2.
