Kingdom Hearts comes to PS5 in Japan, but PS4 saves stay behind

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] launches on PS5 in Japan on October 8, 2026.
  • PS4 saves cannot transfer, although existing PS4 digital owners can buy the corresponding titles at a discount.
  • Digital preorders include 48-hour early access; the physical edition does not.

KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] launches on PS5 in Japan tomorrow, October 8, 2026. If you were hoping to move an existing PS4 adventure over to the new versions, there’s a catch: your save data cannot come with you.

Snackgirls react

Red: A fresh save? I’d be tempted to turn the restart into a challenge and see how far I could get in one evening.

Nea: I’d like to take my time with the HD cinematics. Having those story-focused pieces alongside the games is what draws me to the collection.

A purchase discount, not a free upgrade

Players who bought the PS4 digital versions can purchase the corresponding PS5 titles at a discount. The announcement does not state the discount amount.

That offer does not include save transfer. Moving to the PS5 versions means starting with a fresh save, even if you qualify for the reduced purchase price.

Three packages, including HD cinematics

The collection brings together the following packages, which are also available separately as digital releases in Japan:

  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX — ¥5,280
  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue — ¥4,180
  • KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind — ¥5,280

Not every included entry is a playable game. 358/2 Days, Re:coded and chi Back Cover are HD cinematic works, while Re Mind is DLC for KINGDOM HEARTS III.

The complete collection costs ¥11,000 including tax in Japan, for either the physical or digital edition.

Digital preorders can still get you in before launch

Digital preorders of the complete collection or any of the three separate products include 48-hour early access. The October 7 announcement says preordering now still lets you start before release, so the benefit remains relevant on the day before launch. It is not a physical-edition bonus.

The collection and the separate KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind package also include the Midnight Blue Keyblade for KINGDOM HEARTS III. If you want to begin ahead of the October 8 launch, the early-access offer is tied to a digital preorder.
