Red I want to put on a game soundtrack, turn the screen off and let it run. I’m curious how USB DAC playback holds up with this update.
Nea I’d like to linger over the soundtrack covers in the library. Keeping their original proportions matters to me, especially when the artwork wasn’t composed for a square.
When lowering the volume leaves playback loud
The release notes describe improvements for cases where adjusting USB DAC volume freezes the app, or where playback remains loud despite lowering the volume. Audio cutting out when the screen turns off is also listed as improved—not a promise that every device will now work without interruptions.
With USB DAC direct output switched off, plugging in a DAC no longer brings up the confirmation prompt. If you previously selected “Always allow” for USB access, the prompt may appear once more after updating.

Album covers keep their original shape
reTONE can now use folder images such as cover.jpg as album artwork, while non-square covers retain their original aspect ratio. The update also fixes a problem that could leave only some tracks from a NAS visible in the library.
Get the update from the official release page
The free, ad-free APK is available from the official reTONE release page for ARM-based Android smartphones and tablets running Android 4.0 or later. Installing it over the previous version preserves settings and playlists.
Android 4.0 cannot use the in-app update check, so users on that version need to check the release page for updates. reTONE remains in beta, and a device reporting USB host support does not guarantee that it will recognize a USB DAC.
