Google’s October 29 Gemini update lets you create and revise files without leaving your chat, keeping the file and requests for changes together.
Google’s demonstration turns uploaded handwritten lecture notes into a PDF study guide, then shows manual edits, targeted changes and follow-up questions.
You can expand the editor to full screen to type changes directly, or highlight text to ask a question or request a revision. Google’s official demonstration shows how those manual edits and Gemini requests fit into the same workflow.
Snackgirls react
AIKO: I’d type the exact wording myself and use a highlighted request for broader changes. I’m curious how smoothly I could switch between the two without losing my place.
Nea: I’d like to gather game-lore notes into a PDF, especially the little connections between characters. That sounds like something I’d keep reopening after finishing the game.
PDF editing works on mobile, too
PDF preview and editing are supported on both the web and mobile, so those two functions are available whichever platform you use.
The other listed formats—Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files and code—are supported on the web only.

From lecture notes to a study guide
Google’s example starts with uploaded handwritten lecture notes and creates a PDF study guide from them. Highlighting sections lets the user request changes to text or visuals, while follow-up questions continue in the chat.
The new capabilities are available to all users, in all languages where the Gemini app is available.
