Snackgirls react

Red Holding one button to bring the current music into another room is the shortcut I’d want to try first. I could keep moving without stopping to open the app.

AIKO I’d map the rooms and soundbar setup before choosing a model. M1 and P1 can become rear channels at launch, while X1 has a separate multi-room music role in that system.

JBL has announced Cove, a three-model Wi-Fi speaker family designed for listening across multiple rooms, ahead of its September 13 U.S. release. Each speaker can work alone, form a stereo pair or join a multi-room group through the JBL One app, so a system can begin in one room and expand later.

One family, three different roles

The compact M1 is a fixed-room speaker with three tweeters and one 4-inch woofer. The battery-powered P1 adds an up-firing tweeter and Dolby Atmos support, carries an IP56 rating and runs for up to 14 hours before returning to its charging dock.

The fixed X1 is the flagship of the range. It supports Dolby Atmos and uses four tweeters, including one up-firing unit, alongside two woofers.

Several ways to start listening

Every Cove model supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect. JBL says setup takes three steps and does not require a JBL account.

The Moment button provides access to Spotify Tap. Holding it activates Music Follows Me, extending the music or TV audio already playing to that speaker without opening the phone app.

Soundbar plans can shape the choice

At launch, the M1 and P1 can serve as rear channels for compatible JBL Bar 300 MK2, 500 MK2, 700 MK2, 1000 MK2 and 1300X MK2 soundbars through JBL One. The X1 works with those soundbars for multi-room music, but not as a rear channel at launch.

All three models come in black or white. U.S. prices are $229.95 for the M1, $399.95 for the P1 and $449.95 for the X1. A compact fixed room points toward the M1, moving between rooms or sheltered outdoor spaces suits the P1, and the X1 fills the fixed flagship role. The room layout and any planned soundbar expansion should guide where a Cove system starts.
