Apple’s first foldable iPhone starts with a familiar 5.4-inch outer display, then opens to a 7.6-inch inner display designed as a larger workspace. Announced on September 9, iPhone Duo puts that transition at the center of everyday use, moving from a single screen to supported multitasking when unfolded.
From a pocket screen to a wider canvas
Opened, iPhone Duo’s inner display has the same aspect ratio as the 6.3-inch iPhone display while providing about 75 percent more screen area, according to Apple. Both displays support up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness, and the inner display works with Apple Pencil with USB-C.
What the larger display is built to do
Apple says supported apps can run side by side and move content between them. Netflix, Zoom, and Slack are among the apps it names as adapted for the larger display, while Apple’s product images show Netflix across the unfolded screen and Safari beside Siri.
The phone uses the A20 Pro chip, and its hinge contains more than 100 components. Touch ID is built into the side button, while Apple rates the device IP68 for dust and water resistance. Its video-playback figures reach up to 44 hours on the outer display and 31 hours on the inner display.
October preorders in Korea and Japan
The Korean and Japanese Apple Stores each list preorders from 9 p.m. on October 16, with availability beginning October 23. U.S. pricing starts at $1,999, and the phone comes in silver, black, and light gold.
Apple’s Korean product page separately states that iPhone Duo sold there does not support a physical SIM.
