Red: Rewind is what I would reach for after a costly mistake. I also want to see how Combat School changes the way I approach these games.
Nea: The Location Test Version is the real draw for me. I would start there, then browse the museum materials and trace the series’ visual history.

SNK is marking METAL SLUG’s 30th anniversary with a ten-game compilation, and its most unusual inclusion is the METAL SLUG Location Test Version. The rare version has never received an official release, giving the collection an archival draw beyond its familiar arcade lineup.
Ten entries span the series
METAL SLUG ULTIMATE COLLECTION includes:
- METAL SLUG, METAL SLUG 2, METAL SLUG X, METAL SLUG 3, METAL SLUG 4, and METAL SLUG 5
- METAL SLUG ADVANCE, METAL SLUG 6, and METAL SLUG 7
- METAL SLUG Location Test Version
Rewind and Combat School join the archive
Modern support includes quick save, quick load, a rewind of a few seconds, score attack, time attack, and Combat School Mode. Online rankings and a gallery or museum mode featuring logos and visual materials are also planned. SNK notes that available features, modes, and content vary by title.
A 2027 launch across consoles and PC
The collection is planned for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam in 2027. It can already be added to wishlists on supported platforms, but SNK has not announced a specific release date or price.
