SNACK: 3-line summary
- Japanese Switch 2 packaging for Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 lists minimum storage requirements for their Game-Key Card editions.
- You’ll need at least 15 GB for Resident Evil 2, 14 GB for Resident Evil 3 and 30 GB for Resident Evil 4.
- After the initial download, you can play offline with the card inserted, except in modes that require internet.
The Japanese boxed Nintendo Switch 2 editions of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 use Game-Key Cards, which contain no game data. Before your first session, you’ll need an internet connection to download the game and enough free storage to hold it.

Snackgirls react
Red: That rainy R.P.D. scene makes me want to jump back in as Leon—and immediately check what’s behind him.
AIKO: The box needs shelf space, and the game needs console space. The storage meter is unimpressed by physical packaging.
How much room each Japanese edition needs
The Japanese package artwork and product descriptions on Amazon Japan list these minimum free-space requirements:
| Japanese package edition | Minimum free space |
|---|---|
| BIOHAZARD RE:2 Z Version Deluxe Edition | 15 GB |
| BIOHAZARD RE:3 Z Version | 14 GB |
| BIOHAZARD RE:4 Gold Edition | 30 GB |
These are minimum free-space requirements, not exact download or installed file sizes. Update data may need additional storage.
If you need to expand your Switch 2’s game storage, it requires a microSD Express card—not a regular microSD card.

The card stays in after the download
Once the main game has downloaded, the Game-Key Card must remain inserted to play. Ordinary offline gameplay does not require a continuous internet connection, though internet-dependent modes do.
Moving the card to another console means downloading the game on that console as well.
Leon and Jill in the official Switch 2 stills
Capcom’s announcement screenshots show Resident Evil 2’s rainy street and R.P.D. with Leon seen from behind, a close-up of Jill’s scratched face in Resident Evil 3, and Leon aiming a handgun in Resident Evil 4. These images show the scenes and visual presentation; they do not provide measured Switch 2 resolution or frame-rate results.
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe includes existing DLC, while Resident Evil 3 includes the classic costume DLC but not Resident Evil Resistance. Resident Evil 4 Gold includes Separate Ways and other existing DLC.
The release schedule comes from Capcom’s September 10 announcement: the Japanese digital editions are scheduled for October 16, 2026, followed by the Japanese boxed editions on January 29, 2027.
