SNACK: 3-line summary
- The original English Base Set Blastoise 2/102 uses Rain Dance for repeated Water Energy attachments.
- Each use attaches one Water Energy to one of your Water Pokémon without using your normal attachment for the turn.
- Hydro Pump counts only two extra Water Energy toward bonus damage, even if more are attached.
Rain Dance on the original English Base Set Blastoise 2/102 lets you attach Water Energy repeatedly before attacking. Hydro Pump has a separate limit: only the first two extra Water Energy count toward its bonus damage.

Snackgirls react
Kirari: I’d zoom in on those sturdy twin water cannons first. They give Blastoise such a strong silhouette.
Nea: Once Hydro Pump reaches its cap, I’d start wondering which other Water Pokémon could use the next attachment. That makes me want to sketch out the rest of the team.
Rain Dance can power up your other Water Pokémon, too
Printed as a Pokémon Power, Rain Dance can be used as often as you like during your turn, before your attack. Each use attaches one Water Energy card to one of your Water Pokémon—the recipient does not have to be Blastoise.
These attachments do not use up your normal one-Energy-card attachment for the turn. Rain Dance cannot be used while Blastoise is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
Five Water Energy or six, Hydro Pump stays at 60
Hydro Pump needs three Water Energy and deals 40 base damage. Each Water Energy attached to Blastoise beyond that cost adds 10 damage, but only the first two extras count. Other Energy types do not contribute to this bonus.
For this printed attack, without Weakness, Resistance, or other effects, three attached Water Energy mean 40 damage; four mean 50; five mean 60; and six still mean 60. The cap applies to Hydro Pump’s extra damage, not to how many Energy cards Rain Dance can attach.
