Fossil Muk’s Toxic Gas blocks your own Pokémon Powers, too

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • The original English Fossil Muk 13/62 makes both players ignore Pokémon Powers other than Toxic Gases.
  • Toxic Gas stops working while this Muk is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
  • Its separate attack, Sludge, can Poison the Defending Pokémon only if a coin flip comes up heads.

On the original English Fossil Muk 13/62, Toxic Gas makes both players ignore Pokémon Powers other than Toxic Gases. Its owner gets no special exemption: your own other Pokémon Powers are affected, too.

Snackgirls react

Kirari: I’d love a close-up of Mitsuhiro Arita’s Muk illustration! The original artwork is where I’d linger before diving into the card text.

Nea: I like that its owner has to live with the gas as well. I’d be poring over my other Pokémon Powers, wondering which ones I could bear to lose.

When this Muk’s Power stops working

Toxic Gas is a Pokémon Power, not an attack. It stops working while this Muk is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.

The printed wording specifically concerns Pokémon Powers. It does not tell players to ignore attacks or every other card effect.

Sludge brings the Poison—with a coin flip

Muk’s separate attack, Sludge, costs three Grass Energy and deals 30 damage. You also flip a coin: on heads, the Defending Pokémon becomes Poisoned.

Toxic Gas itself does not automatically Poison anything. On this card, that chance belongs to Sludge.
