Gemini brings opt-in personal context to Android Auto

Gemini in the car is gaining access to personal context you choose to share, so a spoken request can draw on details from your connected apps. Google calls the feature Personal Intelligence. Gemini itself is already available globally on Android Auto and in cars with Google built-in.

From a flight email to a forgotten car wash

With your permission, Personal Intelligence connects Workspace apps including Gmail and Google Calendar, along with Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube and Search. Those apps are not connected until you turn it on, and you can switch it off at any time in Gemini settings. If you have already enabled Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app, it carries over to the car as the feature becomes available.

Google’s examples include asking for a flight’s gate and current status in one request, combining a detail from an email with current flight information. It also describes finding a restaurant along your route that matches your preferences, or identifying a car wash from a photo taken the previous week and getting directions there.

Android Auto first, Google built-in cars later

Personal Intelligence began rolling out on Android Auto on October 20, 2026. Cars with Google built-in are scheduled to receive it in the coming months.

The rollout is limited to eligible personal Google accounts for users aged 18 or older, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Workspace business, enterprise and education accounts are not eligible, even though Workspace apps are among the services the feature can connect.

For cars with Google built-in, Google says personal responses will only be provided when you are in the car with your phone connected. Without Personal Intelligence, navigation, music, calls and general questions still work; the answers simply are not personalized.
