SNACK: 3-line summary
- Helldivers 2 switched from GameGuard to Easy Anti-Cheat on October 20.
- Some mods may stop working, while cosmetic mods may need updates from their creators.
- Steam Deck and Linux remain playable, with no changes to hardware requirements.
Arrowhead switched Helldivers 2 from GameGuard to Easy Anti-Cheat on October 20, 2026. For mod users, the change can reach beyond tools that affect gameplay: cosmetic mods may also need updates from their creators.

Why Arrowhead replaced GameGuard
Arrowhead says its implementation of GameGuard was not as effective as it could have been. The developer has introduced additional security tools and countermeasures against recent cheat mods alongside the switch, aiming to protect fair play, the Galactic War, progression and story from cheating.
Snackgirls react
Red: I want a squad’s success to come from playing together, not somebody’s cheats. That’s what I’d want these tools to protect.
Nea: I hope creators can keep cosmetic mods working after the switch. I’d probably spend far too long choosing one small personal touch.
What mod users may need to do
This is not a blanket ban on mods. Some cheat or gameplay-affecting mods may stop working, while cosmetic and other non-gameplay mods may need their creators to make changes.
Arrowhead says it appreciates the community’s creativity, but does not guarantee that mods are safe or will remain usable. Players use them at their own discretion. If a non-destructive mod or other software is blocked, the developer asks players to contact its support team.
Steam Deck and Linux support stays the same
The official FAQ says Steam Deck and Linux compatibility remains unchanged, and the game is still playable on both. There are also no changes to hardware requirements because of the anti-cheat switch.
