Tamiya’s Magnum Saber and Sonic Saber: the original Let’s & Go!! duo returns

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Tamiya plans to reissue the Magnum Saber and Sonic Saber Mini4WD kits in Japan in April 2027.
  • Both use the Super 1 chassis and are priced at ¥1,320 each, including tax.
  • Each car requires a separately purchased motor and two AA batteries.

Tamiya’s 1/32 Magnum Saber and Sonic Saber Mini4WD kits are scheduled to return in Japan in April 2027. First sold in September 1994, the pair is known as the first machines of Go and Retsu Seiba, respectively, in Bakusou Kyoudai Let’s & Go!!.

Snackgirls react

Kirari: Those fluorescent green and yellow wheels make me want to line both cars up for a photo. I’d want both sets of wheels clearly in the shot!

Red: I want to build one and try both gear ratios. Which setup will I end up keeping?

Same Super 1 chassis, different wheel details

Both are shaft-driven four-wheel-drive plastic assembly kits built on the Super 1 chassis—not radio-controlled cars or finished display models. Each measures 137 mm long when assembled and comes with rubber-ring guide rollers, removable side guards and two selectable gear ratios for adjusting speed and power.

Magnum Saber pairs fluorescent green low-profile wheels with narrow slick tires. Sonic Saber uses fluorescent yellow small-diameter wheels and high-grip slick tires, along with a more upright rear wing that Tamiya describes as corner-focused.

Assembly is press-fit, without glue, and motor installation requires no wiring. Tamiya’s product photos show assembled and painted examples, rather than an unpainted build straight from the box.

¥1,320 each, with motors sold separately

Tamiya lists both kits at ¥1,320 each, including tax, for the planned April 2027 Japanese release.

To run either car, you’ll need a motor and two AA batteries per car, all purchased separately. Set those aside for the build as well—the kit does not include its motor.
