SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Google has released Chrome 157 Stable with 213 security fixes, including patches for seven vulnerabilities rated Critical.
  • Desktop availability is rolling out over days and weeks; the Android release is reaching Google Play over the next few days.
  • Check for the update and restart your desktop browser to apply it; Incognito windows will not reopen automatically.

Google announced Chrome 157 Stable for Windows, Mac and Linux on November 3, 2026, alongside an Android release. Availability is gradual, so check your browser’s full version number to see whether it is running one of the announced builds.

Snackgirls react

AIKO: A browser feels quiet when you’re just reading a page. That cluster of graphics bugs makes me curious about the machinery working out of sight.

Nea: I’d like to return to my game guides and settings wikis after the restart. A small detail can lead to a whole evening of reading.

Seven Critical flaws across browser components

Google lists seven vulnerabilities as Critical within the release’s 213 security fixes. They affect Dawn, ANGLE, WebGL, Prerender, Geometry and Core, and include buffer overflows, memory corruption and use-after-free bugs.

Some bug details may remain restricted until most users have received a fix, or while other projects using an affected third-party library remain unpatched. The announcement does not report active exploitation; that does not establish that none has occurred.

Which version should you look for?

For both Windows and Mac, the announced version is either 157.0.8103.38 or 157.0.8103.39. Linux is receiving 157.0.8103.38. Google says the desktop rollout will take place over the coming days and weeks, rather than reaching everyone at once.

Android’s release is 157.0.8103.38, arriving on Google Play over the next few days. Google says Android releases contain the same security fixes as their corresponding desktop releases unless otherwise noted.

Apply the update without losing your place

On Windows or Mac, open the three-dot menu, then choose Help → About Google Chrome to check the full version number and look for an update; select Relaunch when offered. On Linux, update Chrome through your package manager, then restart the browser. Regular tabs and windows reopen after a restart, but Incognito windows do not, so finish any private browsing first.

On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile icon and go to Manage apps & device → Updates available. Find Chrome and tap Update when it is available.
