SNACK Quick Summary
- Waze is adding motorcycle mode, personalized routing, fewer voice prompts and more Gemini-powered voice features.
- Motorcycle mode starts in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and the Philippines on Android and iOS, with more countries planned.
- The bigger digital-life signal is that navigation apps are becoming more conversational and context-aware, not just map screens.

Snack Editorial Note
Red: This looks like a navigation-app update, but the direction is bigger than a normal settings tweak.
AIKO: The key is the rollout split. Some features are global now, while motorcycle mode and Gemini destination search have narrower starting points.
Kirari: Less chatty mode may be the easiest one to feel immediately if you listen to music or podcasts while driving.
Google/Waze has announced a new set of navigation features on its official blog. The package covers motorcycle-specific routing, personalized navigation, shorter voice prompts, and Gemini-powered conversational reporting and destination search.
What changes with motorcycle mode
Waze says motorcycles need different routing assumptions from cars. They can use narrower streets and are more sensitive to road-surface issues such as potholes, speed bumps, raised crosswalks, shoulder endings and narrow bridges.
The new mode uses AI to factor in two-wheeler shortcuts, restrictions and rider-specific hazards for routes and ETAs. For now, users still need to check regional availability because the rollout begins in selected countries.
Personalized routes and less chatty prompts
Personalized navigation uses previous trips alongside Waze’s local traffic knowledge. If you tend to prefer highways over stop-heavy local streets, Waze says those routes can be suggested first, while users can still choose alternatives or turn personalization off.
Less chatty mode is aimed at people who want fewer interruptions while listening to music or podcasts. Critical alerts for hazards, turns and lane changes remain, but the prompts are shorter and less frequent.

Where Gemini comes in
Waze already uses Gemini capabilities for conversational incident reporting. The new update extends that idea to map updates, so users can say that a road is closed or an address is outdated and send the suggestion to local map editors.
Gemini-powered destination search is also expanding in beta. Before starting navigation, users can ask for things like an open coffee shop, parking near a mall or the cheapest nearby gas station, then begin navigation by voice.

What readers should watch
The useful reading is not simply “AI in Waze.” It is that navigation apps are learning more context about how people move and accepting more natural-language input.
Rollout scope matters. Motorcycle mode starts in seven countries, personalized navigation, less chatty mode and map-update reporting are rolling out globally on Android and iOS, and Gemini destination search starts with the Waze beta community.
