Red: Adding a whole playable Age could give a long campaign a fresh burst of momentum. I want to carry an old civilization across that boundary and feel the pace change.
AIKO: Space missions, climate systems and manufactured resources create an intriguing network of dependencies. I am curious which connection becomes the first strategic bottleneck.
Civilization VII is extending its timeline beyond the existing three Ages. Arc of Tomorrow is a free major update planned for 2027 that adds the Atomic Age as a fourth playable Age, while Earthrise is a separate paid expansion scheduled for later in 2027.

A new Age stretching into the 2050s
The Atomic Age will cover roughly the 1950s through the 2050s, introducing period-specific buildings, units, visuals, technology and civic trees, along with new civilizations and leaders. Its systems include expanded nuclear gameplay, multilateral agreements, proxy warfare through City-States, Great Works of Film and manufactured goods such as enriched uranium.
Players will be able to continue into the Atomic Age from an earlier era or begin there directly with Advanced Start. Firaxis plans to hold its first Arc of Tomorrow playtest through the Firaxis Feature Workshop later in 2026. The update remains in early development, so its details may change.
Earthrise carries one campaign from stargazing to spaceflight
Earthrise connects space development across the entire campaign. Players will chart and name celestial bodies during Antiquity and Exploration, launch orbital missions in the Modern Age, then operate a space agency and pursue solar-system missions in the Atomic Age.
The expansion also plans terrain-altering tools, civil-engineering structures for natural disasters and global warming, and advantages tied to different biomes. Its exact release date and price have not been announced.
September brings a separate update first
Before either 2027 release, Update 1.5.0 is planned for later in September 2026. It will add a True Start Location Earth map, update the Voronoi systems used by Terra Incognita and Shuffle maps, speed up and diversify resource generation, revise diplomacy and introduce interface changes including a tile ruler.
