Red — Alt + Space and Gemini drops over whatever I’m working on? My fingers are going to learn that shortcut before I do.
AIKO — A global app launch does not equal identical features on every account. Excitement: enabled. Assumptions: disabled.

Google’s Gemini app is now available globally on Windows in the countries and languages where Gemini is supported. It requires Windows 10 or later on an x64 or ARM64 PC, and Alt + Space opens Gemini over the work already on screen; feature availability varies.
Gemini without leaving the active window
Pressing Alt + Space brings up Gemini over the user’s current work. The shortcut can be changed in the app settings, while the taskbar and Gemini icon in the system tray provide two other ways to open it.
Inside its dedicated desktop workspace, Gemini can provide quick answers, draft messages and help brainstorm ideas.

From Gmail and Drive to deeper research
The Windows app can connect with Gmail and Google Drive to find information and summarize documents. Google’s desktop product page also lists Docs and Calendar, while the workspace supports more involved research tasks.
Chat history and memory sync across devices when the same Google account is used, making it possible to continue a conversation away from the PC.

Creative tools arrive with account-level limits
Google lists custom image creation with Nano Banana, video creation with Gemini Omni and multi-step work handed off to Gemini Spark. Access to individual tools can depend on the account, plan, age, language, country or rollout, so the global app release does not give every user an identical feature set on day one.
Google describes the app as lightweight and says it runs without slowing down the PC, though no independent benchmark accompanies that claim. More native Windows desktop capabilities are planned, but Google has not provided a full feature list or rollout dates.
