Google is expanding Gmail Live and AI Inbox to paid Workspace users, helping eligible customers find answers in their email by voice and catch up on work across conversations. Both features are currently limited to users in the United States with English (United States) set as their language.

Snackgirls react
AIKO: I’d want to follow a spoken answer back to its email thread. Even a voice interface needs a paper trail.
Nea: I’d like to ask about an event notice buried in a long email chain. Finding the deadline would let me get back to looking forward to it.
Ask your inbox a question, then open the source
On supported Android and iOS devices, Gmail Live lets you ask questions about your inbox naturally and hear spoken answers. Google’s examples include checking an order’s status, a training deadline or a flight’s departure gate.
An email source card now appears prominently at every conversational turn, and you can choose your preferred voice within Gmail Live. To start a session, tap the Live entry in the Gmail app’s search bar; first-time users are prompted to grant microphone access.
Gmail Live began rolling out to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains on October 15, 2026. The rollout is gradual, with up to 15 days for the feature to become visible.

To-dos and topic summaries across email threads
AI Inbox extracts suggested to-dos from email conversations, including action items, deliverables and deadlines. Its “Topics to catch up on” section summarizes important discussions, key decisions and status changes across threads.
Eligible users can access AI Inbox in Gmail on desktop or through the mobile app menu. If a summary flags an important deadline or decision, it is worth opening the underlying email for the full context.
For editions included in the October rollout, Rapid Release deployment began on October 12, 2026, while Scheduled Release deployment starts on October 26. Both tracks have a gradual rollout of up to 15 days; Starter and Education editions follow the later schedule below.
Which editions qualify—and which must wait
The US and English (United States) restrictions apply to both features. Gmail Live’s eligible Workspace editions include Business and Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus; Frontline Plus; and Workspace for Nonprofits. Eligible add-ons include Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, AI Expanded Access, AI Ultra Access and Google AI Pro for Education.
AI Inbox’s October rollout covers Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Frontline Plus. Although Starter editions and AI Pro for Education appear in its availability list, Google says Starter and Education editions will receive AI Inbox later, in the coming months—not on the October rollout dates.
The admin rules also differ. Gmail Live is on by default for organizations with Gemini in Workspace access and respects existing admin settings for smart features and personalization. Google lists no admin control for AI Inbox.
