Arc browser shuts down December 22—move your data first

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • The Arc browser will stop working on macOS and Windows on December 22, 2026.
  • All Arc accounts will be deactivated that day, with related personal data deleted within 30 days.
  • Import into Dia or export your tabs before December 22; the deletion period is not extra recovery time.

Arc for macOS and Windows will stop working on December 22, 2026. Before that date, import your Arc data into Dia or save your tabs as a list of links.

Snackgirls react

AIKO: I’d be curious to compare a plain link export with Dia’s imported tab groups—especially whether the workspace stays organized the way its owner intended.

Nea: If I had game walkthroughs and reference tabs arranged by title, I’d want to keep those little collections together. It would be reassuring to find the right guide when I needed a hint.

Your Arc account closes with the desktop apps

Arc’s desktop apps will continue working as usual and receive basic updates until the shutdown. New account creation ended on October 22, 2026, but that signup cutoff does not affect existing accounts.

All Arc accounts will be deactivated on December 22. Their associated personal data will be deleted within 30 days, but the company will no longer be able to identify or retrieve Arc user data for data requests from December 22. Those 30 days are not a recovery grace period.

If you have both Arc and Dia accounts, the change affects only the personal data associated with your Arc account.

Import into Dia, or save tab links for another browser

Dia, the replacement browser from the team behind Arc, is free to download for macOS and Windows. The company says the browser features Arc users rely on are free in Dia, and AI is optional.

Dia’s Arc import brings over passwords, history, tabs, bookmarks and extensions. Spaces become Profiles, Folders become Tab Groups, and Pinned Tabs and Favorites keep their custom names.

During Dia signup, select Arc when asked which browser to import from; you do not need to export anything first. If you already use Dia, on macOS choose Dia > Import from Another Browser from the menu bar. On Windows, open the Dia app menu and select Import from another browser.

For a different browser, Arc’s tab export saves a list of links. It does not provide a complete transfer of passwords, history and extensions.

On macOS, go to Arc > Settings > Advanced > Export Data, choose where to save the file and select Save. On Windows, open Settings with Ctrl+, or through the Arc menu, then go to Advanced > Export Spaces and tabs > Export Data and save the file.

Mobile loses AI and syncing on November 23

On November 23, 2026, Arc Search on iOS and Android will lose Browse for Me and its other AI features. Sign-in and tab syncing will also end that day.

The iOS app will remain usable as a lite browser. Arc Search for Android will be fully discontinued on December 22; the company says it will be removed from Google Play and from devices where it is installed.

Both mobile apps already offer an export option for saving open tabs as a list of links.
