SNACK: 3-line summary
- iFixit’s iPhone Duo teardown gives the foldable a provisional 5/10 for repairability.
- Both batteries released cleanly, the outer display came off intact, and smaller components were relatively accessible.
- The score does not establish durability: inner-screen repairs remain difficult, and reported early screen failures have no confirmed cause.
iFixit has given the iPhone Duo a provisional 5/10 for repairability, its highest foldable smartphone score so far. Easier access to some components does not establish screen durability, especially with the cause of reported early display failures still unknown.
In iFixit’s teardown, both batteries release cleanly from electrically debonded adhesive, and the outer display comes off intact. The video also opens up the hinge assembly, showing where the repair work becomes considerably more involved.

Snackgirls react
AIKO: Adhesive that releases electrically is my kind of cooperation. I’d like to see that clean-removal approach reach more parts.
Nea: I’d like to trace those linked hinge joints through the CT views. It has the same pull as a detailed setting book: I want to understand what each tiny piece is doing.
The inner screen and hinge remain difficult to reach
Cleaning or replacing the hinge’s moving parts requires removing the flexible display and its supports. Inner-screen replacement itself involves delicate adhesive work, so the straightforward battery removal should not be mistaken for an easy repair experience throughout the phone.
iFixit also discusses owners’ reports of early screen cracks and bright lines. The cause has not been confirmed. Those reports do not establish a failure rate or show that every unit is affected.

Why the 5/10 is still provisional
The score reflects real improvements in access: cameras and charging hardware need relatively little additional disassembly, and the inner-screen trim came off intact. There are still practical hurdles—the complete teardown required five screwdriver types.
Apple had published a repair manual, but replacement parts were not yet available to iFixit at publication, leaving its score provisional. iFixit expected parts through Apple’s self-service program, without a confirmed date. For anyone putting repairability first, it still recommends a conventional smartphone.
