Sonos Presets start your music with saved rooms and volumes

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Sonos has begun rolling out Presets with its November 3 app update.
  • Save music, selected rooms and each room’s volume, then start playback with one tap in the mobile app.
  • Features arrive in stages, and the new System Health view is limited to iOS.

If you regularly play the same music in the same rooms, Sonos is adding a way to skip setting it all up again. Presets, rolling out with the November 3 Sonos 27.3 app update, remember the content, selected rooms and individual room volumes so one tap starts playback.

Red I’d make a cooking preset. One tap for the music, then straight back to the chopping board.

Nea I’d like a reading playlist low in one room and softer still in the next. Those little differences are what I’d want to save.

Save a setup—or the music already playing

To create a preset, open Home and select + in the Presets section. Give it a name, choose music from Sonos Favorites or search your connected services, then select one or more rooms. Set the volume for each room and select Save.

You can also keep a setup that is already playing: find its room or group in the System tab, open the ellipsis menu and select Save as preset. Selecting a saved preset starts playback; use the app’s usual playback controls to pause.

You can save up to 50 presets to your Sonos account and access them on phones and tablets signed into that account. If a new preset has not appeared on another device, pull down to refresh or reopen the app.

System Health adds connection details on iOS

The new System Health view is being added to the iOS app. Open Settings, select Visit Help Center, then choose System health.

The page shows your systems’ connection status, networks and product counts. Expand a system to see details such as product IP addresses and the Wi-Fi channel in use—useful clues when investigating a connection problem.

Mobile playback, separate voice access and a gradual rollout

Presets currently work in the Sonos mobile app. Neither voice commands nor the Sonos web app supports them. Sonos 27voice is a separate feature with limited early access for US-based customers, supporting US English; acceptance is not guaranteed.

Check the iOS or Android app store for the latest Sonos app. Updates and individual features roll out over several days, sometimes weeks, so a feature may not appear immediately even after you update.
