Vivaldi 8.3 adds four ad-blocking levels per site

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Vivaldi 8.3 introduces four built-in ad and tracker blocking levels on desktop, Android and iOS.
  • Choose a default for all sites, then set remembered exceptions through the address-bar shield.
  • Strong and Aggressive block more trackers and ads, but may stop parts of a site from working.

Vivaldi 8.3 gives you four levels of built-in ad and tracker blocking that you can adjust for individual sites. Released on November 5, 2026 for desktop, Android and iOS, the update also adds more compact ways to use vertical tabs on desktop.

Snackgirls react

AIKO: I like a rule system with small, remembered exceptions. One awkward page shouldn’t get to rewrite the rules for every other tab.

Nea: I’d keep character references pinned at the top, with lore pages underneath. Revealing the titles on hover sounds helpful when one question turns into a dozen tabs.

Choose a default, then adjust individual sites

According to Vivaldi, Off disables the built-in blocker, while Light blocks most known trackers and some ads. Strong blocks more trackers and ads, and Aggressive blocks almost all of them; either of these stronger settings can cause sites to stop working properly.

The level you choose in Settings or during setup applies to all sites. If a page needs a different setting, use the shield icon in the address bar to change its level without changing your default. Vivaldi remembers that site’s choice.

Vertical tabs expand when you need the titles

Vivaldi's lavender sidebar shows Workspaces and Mastodon, ESPN, Reddit and Spotify icons above four vertical tabs, with an ESPN National Lacrosse League page partly visible on the right.

On desktop, Expand Tab Bar on Hover keeps the vertical tab bar narrow, showing only site icons until you move the pointer over it. The bar expands to reveal full titles and collapses again when you move away. This works with the tab bar on either side of the window.

Pinned tabs can now sit side by side in a compact grid at the top, leaving more room for the rest of your tabs. If you prefer each pinned tab to occupy a full-width row, that layout remains available in the tab settings.

Share links without known tracking parameters

Copy Sanitized Link is available on desktop, Android and iOS. It removes known tracking parameters before a link reaches the clipboard, but does not hide your IP address, erase browsing history or eliminate every form of tracking.

On mobile, long-press the address bar or open the Share menu and select Copy sanitized link when you want to send someone a page.
