Xbox PC app launches up to 60% faster in new Insider preview

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Xbox has opened its updated Xbox PC app to Xbox Insiders.
  • The preview brings faster loading in Xbox’s internal tests, simpler library navigation and broader search.
  • A separate web refresh will reach more players over the next few weeks, bringing cloud-playable games together in a new Library tab.

Xbox Insiders can try an updated Xbox PC app starting November 5, with app launches up to 60% faster in Xbox’s internal tests. That figure measures how quickly the app opens—not game frame rates—and this is an Insider preview, not a general release for every PC player.

Less waiting, fewer detours through the library

Xbox also reports up to 50% faster loading for the Home, Store and Game Pass pages, and up to 65% faster opening of in-app windows. All of these figures come from internal testing; results can vary with the device, internet connection, system configuration, usage and other factors.

The Library gets simpler navigation, updated filters and a revised layout. Search also covers installed games, add-ons and people, giving players more ways to find what they came for.

Snackgirls react

Red: I want to open the app, pick a game and get going. I’m curious how much of that wait disappears on my PC.

Nea: I’d like to find an overlooked library game without rearranging everything first. A few useful filters could make choosing the next game a pleasant little rediscovery.

A cloud library on the web, with its own rollout

Separately, Xbox’s refreshed web experience will roll out automatically to more players over the next few weeks. Xbox points players to play.xbox.com to try it sooner.

The new Library tab brings together cloud-playable games you own and cloud-playable games available through your Game Pass access. You can browse by recently played, genre or input type; owning a game does not automatically make it playable in the cloud.

The web refresh also includes a desktop mode that uses larger screens, dark and light themes, and five high-contrast options. Updated looks and navigation are also beginning to reach cloud apps on supported TVs and VR headsets, rather than arriving on every device at once.
