Bottom line first: it is not too late yet. Korea’s prices are already heavy, and the second half of the year is packed with big games like Marvel’s Wolverine, Call of Duty, and GTA 6. There are too many games to play now to simply wait for PS6.

Looking at Korea, it is no longer easy to say, “I will wait until PS5 gets cheaper.”
According to Korean reports, SIEK is raising prices across the PS5 lineup. The PS5 Digital Edition was cited at KRW 798,000, the disc edition at KRW 948,000, and PS5 Pro at KRW 1.318 million.
- The price tag has already moved upward.
- Exchange rates and component costs are still a burden.
- Even if PS6 arrives, its early price is unlikely to be low.
That does not mean PS5 Pro is cheap. But when you think about the second-half game lineup, “I’ll buy it later when it gets cheaper” is not necessarily the easiest choice. That is why people are saying this may be the cheapest it gets.
There are too many games to play
In the end, games are what make people buy a console. The PS5 lineup for the second half of 2026 is close to that exact argument.
Marvel’s Wolverine comes to PS5 on September 15. It is also marked PS5 Pro Enhanced. If you like action games, this one title alone gives you a reason to turn on a PS5.
Ace Combat 8 is scheduled for October 2. It is a game where a large screen, good frame rate, and fast combat matter. This is the kind of genre where the advantages of PS5 Pro are easy to see.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is also scheduled for October 23. If it is a game you will play in multiplayer for a long time, frame rate and screen stability matter.
And the biggest name is GTA 6. According to the official Rockstar Games page, GTA 6 is listed for November 19, first for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you are waiting for the PC version, it may take longer.
Put it on a calendar, and it looks like this.

- Sometime in 2026: new Onimusha title
At this point, the question is less “Are there games to buy?” and more “Should I get the hardware ready before GTA 6?”
Why look at Pro?
If your only target is GTA 6, the regular PS5 is also a realistic choice.
But if you are buying new now, PS5 Pro stands out more.
- It looks better on a 4K TV.
- It has more headroom when frame rates shake.
- The number of PS5 Pro Enhanced games keeps growing.
- Most major second-half titles are heavily affected by image density and frame rate.
Stellar Blade is a good example. The official PS5 Pro page explains that Stellar Blade uses higher frame rates and PSSR upscaling. In action games, that kind of difference translates directly into feel.
PS5 Pro is less “it just runs” and more “it runs while looking better.” If you already have a 4K TV, the difference gets bigger.
Should you wait for PS6?
PS6 rumors keep appearing. Predictions like 2027 or 2028 are also circulating.
But nothing is confirmed right now. Sony has not officially announced a PS6 release date.
Even if a new console arrives, not every game will immediately become PS6-only.
- Early supply is limited.
- Early pricing is high.
- Developers cannot easily abandon the already large PS5 install base.
- During the PS5 generation, PS4 cross-generation releases continued for a long time.
Memory prices are another variable. TrendForce said AI demand is pushing up demand for HBM and DDR5, and that supply shortages could affect device prices. A new console ties together memory, storage, chips, cooling, logistics, and exchange rates.
So “I will absolutely hold out until PS6” is not as clean an answer as it sounds. Even if PS6 arrives, it may be expensive, hard to find, and likely to carry PS5 games alongside it in the early phase.
Onimusha is coming too
A new Onimusha also strengthens the PS5 lineup. Capcom’s new Onimusha is planned for PS5 in 2026, and the PlayStation page also marks it as PS5 Pro Enhanced.
When games like these appear together, the claim that the PS5 generation is over loses force. If anything, the second half of 2026 looks like the real peak season for the late PS5 generation.
VR is a bonus
PS VR2 does not feel completely stopped, either.
Sony released a PS VR2 PC adapter and opened access to SteamVR. PlayStation.Blog has also posted an example of a PS VR2 hand-tracking update.
That does not mean VR is essential for everyone. It is, however, a sign that Sony is not closing down the ecosystem around PS5.

PS5 Pro is expensive. That part is true.
But the situation around PS5 right now is fairly clear.

If you plan to properly play the games coming in the second half of 2026, PS5 Pro is not too late yet.
Put more simply, this is the moment to do the math again if you do not plan to experience GTA 6, Wolverine, Call of Duty, Ace Combat, and Onimusha only through someone else’s videos. This may be the cheapest it gets.
