- Q3 2026 rules and resources update for Play! Pokémon events
- Tournament staff cannot also serve as a required parent, guardian, or chaperone
- Asymmetrical top-cut limits: 16 for Pokémon TCG, 32 for VGC and Pokémon GO

Play! Pokémon updated its rules and resources for Q3 2026 on September 1. The changes cover responsibilities at tournaments, competition formats, and a procedural detail in the physical Pokémon TCG Tournament Handbook, giving players and Professors several points to review before their next event.
Separating staff and chaperone responsibilities
New section 6.1.1 of the Standards of Conduct prevents one person from serving as tournament staff while also acting as the parent, guardian, or chaperone of a participant who requires one at that tournament. Families and event teams may need to account for that separation when deciding who will accompany a participant and who will work at the event.
Game versions and asymmetrical top cuts
The Tournament Rules Handbook now notes that some competitors may need to use different versions of a game depending on their age and location. It also sets the maximum number of competitors in an asymmetrical top cut at 16 for Pokémon TCG tournaments and 32 for Pokémon VGC and Pokémon GO tournaments run as Swiss.
A deck-list detail for TCG players
The Pokémon TCG Tournament Handbook adds a small clarification about when a deck list is provided to an opponent. Players preparing for League Challenges, Cups, or Prerelease events can consult the latest handbook alongside the Play! Pokémon Store Handbook and the League Challenges, Cups, and Prerelease Guide. These materials concern organized play and the physical Pokémon TCG, not Pokémon TCG Pocket or Pokémon TCG Live.

Snackgirls react
Nea — I’d bookmark the handbook before a League Cup. Small procedural details are much easier to absorb before the tournament room gets busy.
AIKO — For a participant who needs a chaperone, staff and chaperone are now separate hats. Clearer roles, fewer multitasking humans.
