Mega Meganium ex Loads Five Energy—But Check That G Mark

The official deck published on February 18 takes a dramatic route: Forretress ex Knocks itself Out while attaching up to five Grass Energy, with the plan of concentrating them on a single Mega Meganium ex. There is one major catch for current events. This Forretress ex carries a G regulation mark and left the in-person Standard format on April 10, 2026, so the list should not be copied unchanged for a current Standard tournament.

Five Energy from one explosive setup

Forretress ex has 270 HP, and its Exploding Energy Ability searches for up to five Basic Grass Energy and attaches them to the player’s Pokémon in any distribution. If it finds cards this way, Forretress ex is Knocked Out and the opponent takes two Prize cards. The guide’s plan is to accept that cost and put the Energy onto one attacker.

Mega Meganium ex is a 360 HP Stage 2 Grass-type Mega Evolution Pokémon ex. Giant Bouquet costs three Colorless Energy and does 70 damage plus 50 more for each Grass Energy attached. The proposed five-Energy attacker is meant to take all six Prize cards by itself, but a Knock Out on a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex gives the opponent three Prize cards. It is a risky one-tank concept, not a guaranteed result.

Building a 460 HP tank

Hero’s Cape raises Mega Meganium ex from 360 to 460 HP. Four Jumbo Ice Cream and two Shuckle provide the healing and survival support intended to keep that one attacker in play through repeated turns.

Four Dawn help find a Basic, Stage 1, and Stage 2 Pokémon. Four Forest of Vitality let Grass Pokémon evolve immediately outside the first turn, accelerating both the Chikorita–Bayleef–Mega Meganium ex line and the Pineco–Forretress ex setup.

The 60-card list is divided into 20 Pokémon, 32 Trainer cards, and eight Basic Grass Energy. Its selected counts include two Mega Meganium ex, three Forretress ex, four Jumbo Ice Cream, and one Hero’s Cape, reinforcing the commitment to keeping one main attacker standing.

Check the regulation mark before sleeving the list

This is Ross Cawthon’s official historical build from before the 2026 in-person Standard rotation. G-mark cards are no longer legal in Standard, while H, I, J, and future marks remain legal. An older printing can still be used when the same card has a currently legal reprint, so it would also be inaccurate to call every card in the February list illegal.

The Paldea Evolved Forretress ex used here is specifically marked G and is outside the current Standard format. Rather than inserting an unverified replacement, check every card’s regulation mark and current reprints.
