Gemini 4 Argon targets long coding jobs—but access varies by plan

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Google has begun the global rollout of Gemini 4 Argon for complex, multi-step work, including long coding tasks.
  • Gemini app and Search access requires Google AI Pro or Ultra; Antigravity and GitHub Copilot have separate eligibility rules.
  • Introductory API prices expire November 30, 2026, with input and output billed separately.

Google began the global rollout of Gemini 4 Argon on October 13, 2026, with long, multi-step coding work among its main targets. Access comes through the paid Gemini API and selected Google and GitHub Copilot subscription tiers, so the plan you have determines where you can use it.

Snackgirls react

AIKO: I’d leave room for the answer in that shared token budget—and watch the bill for the entire refactor. My enthusiasm has a usage meter.

Red: I want to try a small, messy refactor and see whether the tests pass. Show me the diff—I’m curious what it actually changes.

Long coding work, one shared token limit

Google positions Argon for codebase refactoring, migrations and other work that spans many steps. The Gemini API has a unified input-output limit of one million tokens. Tokens are text-processing units: both the material you send and the text the model generates count toward that total, rather than allowing a million tokens of input plus unlimited output.

As one example, Google reports that its Chrome team used Argon to complete an architectural refactor across hundreds of files in weeks rather than months. That internal result is not a promised timeline for other developers, and generated changes still need tests and review.

Which plan gets you access?

Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can use Argon in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. Google Antigravity access in this launch is for Ultra subscribers; Pro access in the app does not also grant Argon access in Antigravity.

Developers can build with the paid Gemini API tier through AI Studio and Android Studio. Google AI Ultra subscribers can also try Argon in AI Studio.

In GitHub Copilot, Argon is available on Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans in tools including Visual Studio Code and Copilot CLI. The rollout is gradual, and Business and Enterprise administrators can disable access through model policy.

The introductory API price has an expiry date

For the public-access Argon model, introductory API pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input discounted by 95%. After the introductory period expires on November 30, 2026, the rates become $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens.

These are usage charges, not monthly Gemini or Copilot subscription prices or a fixed cost per coding job. GitHub says Copilot bills Argon at provider list pricing under usage-based billing. Before starting a long task, check how usage will be charged and which permissions you give the agent.
