SNACK: 3-line summary
- GUNDAM ASSEMBLE’s fixed-pose design is the focus of a new HOBBY Watch planner interview.
- Miniature and game designers work in both directions, with poses sometimes inspiring a unit’s stats.
- The painted booth samples differ from retail miniatures, which come unpainted and require assembly.
GUNDAM ASSEMBLE’s fixed-pose miniatures are designed to capture a moment of combat. HOBBY Watch’s new October 14 planner interview and photo report from the BANDAI SPIRITS booth at the 64th All Japan Model & Hobby Show explains how those sculpted moments connect with the game’s unit design.

Snackgirls react
Kirari: Gundam ZERO’s two-saber pose makes me want to photograph it from different angles. I wonder which view would make the scene feel most like a split-second clash.
Red: I want to try painting a squad in my own colors. With the poses already set, I’d be tinkering with the paint scheme instead of adjusting joints.
The fight is built into the pose
Unlike an articulated Gunpla model that the builder can pose, each GUNDAM ASSEMBLE miniature has a fixed stance. The planner told HOBBY Watch that the aim is to convey a moment in time, from a beam saber’s trajectory to a weapon being brought to bear. Their personal favorite was Gundam ZERO, posed with two beam sabers.
The game designers and miniature planners also work in both directions. The game team may request a figure that expresses a unit’s fighting style, while a pose proposed by the miniature planner can, in turn, inspire that unit’s stats.

A squad to build, paint and command
GUNDAM ASSEMBLE is a miniature battle board game in which each unit combines a miniature and a unit card, with scenarios guiding the choice of units. Players earn victory points through actions such as defeating enemies or rescuing support units; whoever has the higher score at the predetermined turn count wins. Units act according to their timelines, and actions take time before a unit can act again.
Retail miniatures require assembly and come unpainted; the painted finishes in the photographs belong to the exhibition samples. Some of the scenery is also display work, and the maker told HOBBY Watch there are currently no plans to sell those dioramas.
The report also lists GUNDAM ASSEMBLE STARTER SET01 at ¥3,850, without giving an exact launch date.
