Ho-Oh LEGEND: one Pokémon, two cards—and you need both

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Ho-Oh LEGEND from the 2010 English HeartGold & SoulSilver set splits one Pokémon across two cards.
  • Both halves must be in your hand and placed on your Bench together.
  • Look for 111/123 and 112/123 to identify the matching English pair, illustrated by Shinji Higuchi.

Half a Ho-Oh LEGEND isn’t enough to put it into play. This unusual design from the 2010 English Pokémon TCG expansion HeartGold & SoulSilver spreads one Pokémon across two separate physical cards, with a printed rule that requires the pair.

Snackgirls react

Kirari: I’d want to display the two halves together. Ho-Oh’s wings are exactly what I’d want to see as one complete picture!

Nea: I wonder how it would feel to draw the missing half while its partner was already in my hand. That little moment of reunion sounds rather satisfying.

Same name, different halves

The upper half is numbered 111/123 and the lower half is 112/123. Both carry the name Ho-Oh LEGEND and credit artist Shinji Higuchi, but each shows a different portion of the illustration. Arrange them vertically and the artwork connects across the two cards.

The picture has to come together in play, too

To put Ho-Oh LEGEND onto your Bench, you must have both different halves in your hand and place them together. You cannot play one half and add the other on a later turn. The split artwork has a matching requirement in the game: both pieces have to arrive at once.
