- Audiolab has announced the PPA7, a standalone phono stage with a built-in headphone amplifier and digital recording features.
- Records can play through wired or Bluetooth headphones, or be recorded to a PC or Mac over USB-C.
- UK sales are planned for late October 2026 at £499, with cartridge compatibility and receiving-device support worth checking before choosing a setup.
Audiolab’s new PPA7 lets an existing turntable feed wired or wireless headphones and send records to a PC or Mac for archiving. It combines a phono stage, headphone amplifier and analogue-to-digital converter, so listening need not revolve around a speaker system.

Red I want to cue up a record and send it to my wireless headphones. The speakers can sit this one out.
Nea For a soundtrack LP, I’d be more interested in making a digital copy. I’d like to spend longer with individual passages on the computer.
From the cartridge to wired headphones
The PPA7 is a separate phono stage: it amplifies and equalises the small electrical signal from a record player’s cartridge. Separate RCA inputs accommodate moving-magnet (MM) and moving-coil (MC) cartridges, with adjustable loading and gain to match the cartridge in use.
For wired listening, headphones connect to the front 6.35mm socket. The built-in headphone amplifier means this setup needs neither a separate headphone amp nor speakers.
Go wireless, or keep a digital copy
Wired listening follows an analogue path. Bluetooth transmission and computer recording use the built-in analogue-to-digital converter, or ADC, to turn the record signal into digital audio.
Bluetooth 5.3 sends that audio to wireless headphones or speakers, with aptX HD available when the receiving device supports it. This is a transmitter for records, not a Bluetooth receiver for music from a phone.
The USB-C output connects to a PC or Mac to record and store records as digital files. It supports 16- or 24-bit recording at sample rates from 44.1kHz to 192kHz.

£499 in the UK, with speaker connections to consider
UK sales are planned for late October 2026. The recommended retail price is £499, with black and silver finishes available.
The RCA outputs connect to an amplifier or powered speakers. They can operate at a fixed level, or use variable output to engage the PPA7’s volume control for direct connection to a power amplifier. Passive speakers still require power amplification; the RCA outputs cannot drive them directly.
If your current phono stage already meets your needs and you will not use the headphone, Bluetooth or recording features, those additions alone are no reason to replace it. Check your cartridge type and the connections you intend to use before adding the PPA7 to a system.
