SNACK: 3-line summary
- Proton Pass is adding folders, URL-based autofill rules, and compromised-password alerts.
- You can choose where autofill runs and which fields it fills, while the new password check runs locally on your device.
- The rollout is gradual; folder creation requires an eligible paid plan, but Free and Pass Essentials users can use folders in vaults shared by paid users.
Proton announced the Proton Pass update on October 15, giving users ways to organize crowded vaults and control where login details are filled in. The features are rolling out gradually over the following few days, so they may not appear for everyone at once.

Snackgirls react
AIKO: I’d like to test an autofill rule on the pages where it should do absolutely nothing. The exceptions are where wildcard and regular-expression rules get interesting.
Nea: I’d like a folder for game accounts and another for fan sites. It would be nice to keep those little collections together without creating a vault for every interest.
Organize items without multiplying vaults
Folders and nested subfolders let you group items within a vault instead of creating a separate vault for every category. You can drag items between folders and vaults, then filter or search within a folder and its subfolders.
Folder creation is included with Pass Plus, Pass Family, Proton Unlimited, and business plans including Pass Professional, VPN and Pass Professional, and Proton Workspace. Free and Pass Essentials users cannot create folders, but they can use folders in vaults shared by someone with a paid plan.
Sharing still follows the vault
Folders currently inherit their vault’s sharing settings. Organizing items into a folder does not let you share that folder independently; folder-specific sharing is on Proton’s roadmap.
Choose where autofill runs, get alerts for compromised passwords
Autofill rules can cover a parent domain and its subdomains, match an exact host, or disable autofill for a chosen URL. Advanced modes support wildcard patterns and regular expressions. You can also choose which fields to fill.
Proton says the new compromised-password check runs locally on your device, comparing a password’s fingerprint with a list of fingerprints from known data breaches published by security researchers. A match triggers an alert so you can change the password. This joins the existing checks for weak and reused passwords and breached email addresses.
