AIKO: I like seeing different Windows versions share a cumulative patch. The build numbers can keep their individual personalities.

Red: I’d try it in a game with those mouse hitches first. I want to feel whether that little snag is gone when I move the camera.

A mouse-input fix, plus Explorer and audio repairs

KB5127648 brings Windows 11 24H2 to build 26100.9711, 25H2 to 26200.9711 and 26H2 to 26300.9711. The gaming fix addresses an issue that could cause mouse input to stutter in some games; it does not promise a general performance boost.

The update also fixes AC-3 audio playback in some applications and an Explorer problem in multi-user environments such as Azure Virtual Desktop and FSLogix. In those environments, Explorer could fail to start or repeatedly crash after sign-in, leaving a black screen.

Some Remote Desktop and USB audio problems remain

Remote Desktop connections can fail for non-admin users when the remote Windows host has Administrator protection enabled. The issue affects systems with the September 2026 non-security preview KB5124010 or later updates, so it is not unique to the October patch. The error is 0xC000000D: “The token that was passed to the function is invalid.”

This primarily affects enterprise-managed remote hosts. Microsoft added the issue to the release notes on October 14 and is working on a future fix; affected users should consult their IT team rather than change protection settings themselves.

Separately, some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices may fail to start or produce sound after the September 8 security update KB5124012. The September 14 out-of-band update KB5129195 resolved symptoms involving 8-channel and 3D audio modes, but other symptoms remain unresolved. This is separate from the AC-3 playback fix.

How to update—and the cutoff for 24H2 Home and Pro

For Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro, the October 2026 monthly security update is the last one. These editions will no longer receive monthly security or non-security preview updates, so Microsoft recommends upgrading to the latest Windows 11 version to stay protected.

The “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” switch is not required for this security patch. It controls how quickly additional non-security and feature updates arrive; regular security updates are delivered whether the switch is on or off.

To check for the patch, open Start > Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates, then Download & install if offered. Restart if prompted, and use Update history on the same Windows Update page to review installed updates. Organization-managed devices follow their administrator’s update policies.
