Lumo’s new canvas keeps your draft beside the chat

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Lumo Creations is now available to all users, with a canvas for documents, code and interactive web pages.
  • You can request targeted revisions and revisit earlier versions, while further edits happen on the latest version.
  • Saving directly to Drive as PDF currently produces image-based documents; use the browser’s print dialog for selectable text.

Lumo can now keep a document, code file or interactive web page beside your conversation, so the work stays in view while you discuss changes. The new Creations feature is available now to all Lumo users.

Snackgirls react

AIKO: I’d like to inspect the device-side Markdown-to-Word conversion, especially how it carries the formatting through without a separate export backend.

Nea: I’d like to keep a draft game-character profile beside the conversation. I’d compare the versions to see which wording makes the character feel most like themselves.

Select a passage and ask for a change

Lumo can open the canvas automatically when you request a report, code file or web page, while ordinary questions and explanations generally stay in chat. Documents get a formatted view, and web pages can appear as interactive previews. You can disable automatic creations for a conversation through Tools in the chat box, or in Settings.

To revise a document, highlight a passage and ask Lumo to shorten it or make the wording less formal. You can also edit documents yourself using formatting controls or Markdown source.

Selected code offers Improve and Explain options. Direct manual editing is limited to documents; code and other creation types are revised through Lumo.

Revisit old versions, keep editing the latest

Each revision from Lumo or saved manual document edit creates a new version. Earlier versions remain available to review, copy, download or save to Proton Drive, but further editing happens on the latest version.

Library → Creations brings together work from different conversations. Selecting an item returns you to its original chat with the latest version open, rather than leaving you to search through messages for the right draft.

Local exports, with one PDF limitation

Proton says saved creations receive the same zero-access encryption as saved conversations, meaning Proton cannot read them. It also says Lumo does not log chats or use them to train models. The library uses a separate encrypted copy of each creation’s latest version, with your device decrypting the information needed to display it; earlier versions remain in the encrypted conversation history.

Export conversion happens on your device, avoiding an additional backend receiving the document’s unencrypted content. Word files are generated locally from the document’s Markdown structure, while PDF downloads use the browser’s print dialog.

There is an important distinction when saving to Proton Drive: Save to Drive → PDF currently produces image-based document PDFs without selectable text. If you need selectable text, save the PDF through the browser’s print dialog first, then upload that file to Drive.

Presentations are coming soon, according to Proton, but are not available yet.
