SNACK: 3-line summary
- Firefox 159 fixes rapidly growing memory use when sites such as Zoom’s web app are left open in minimized windows.
- macOS web games also get a fix for quick gamepad button presses that sometimes went unregistered.
- The release includes security fixes, available to desktop users through Firefox’s usual update process.
Leaving Zoom’s web app open in a minimized window could cause Firefox’s memory use to grow rapidly. Firefox 159 fixes that problem, alongside a separate Linux memory issue and missed gamepad inputs on macOS.

Snackgirls react
AIKO: A minimized window can still consume RAM. I’d be curious to watch Zoom’s memory use while it’s tucked away—the interesting activity isn’t always on screen.
Nea: I’d like to try a browser game that calls for quick gamepad taps. I want to focus on the next move without wondering whether the last press registered.
Memory fixes for two specific situations
Firefox 159 reached the desktop Release channel on October 27, 2026. Alongside the minimized-window fix, it addresses excessive memory use on Linux systems with AMD graphics when viewing map or place results on sites such as ChatGPT.
On macOS, Mozilla also fixed an issue that sometimes caused web games to miss quick gamepad button presses.
Sidebar passwords and new tab-search shortcuts
Saved passwords are now available in the sidebar by default, without having to add the Passwords tool first.
Open-tab search now uses Ctrl+Shift+A on Windows and Linux, or Cmd+Shift+A on macOS. The Extensions and Themes shortcut has moved to Ctrl+Shift+F on Windows and Linux, and Cmd+Shift+E on macOS. These shortcuts can be customized.

Smart Window monitoring has a limited rollout
Smart Window can now watch pages for changes such as price drops or restocks and send a desktop notification when it finds a match. Mozilla is rolling the feature out gradually; DigitalToday reports that it is currently limited to the English-language desktop Smart Window beta in the United States and Canada.
Separately, the sidebar AI chatbot’s Summarize page option now sends the page’s address to the chatbot provider instead of the page text, so long pages are no longer cut short to a partial summary. Using that option still shares information with the provider.
Mozilla’s accompanying security advisory lists 167 vulnerabilities fixed in Firefox 159. Desktop users can install the release through Firefox’s usual update process.
