Questyle MEX lets you switch between its base sound and your own EQ

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Magway has announced the Questyle MEX, a portable digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and headphone amplifier.
  • A physical slider selects PURE or app-linked TUNE, which offers preset and parametric EQ with settings you can save and recall.
  • Its Japanese debut is scheduled for November 7 at Autumn Headphone Festival 2026, with a public hands-on program planned.

Questyle’s new MEX portable DAC and headphone amplifier puts the choice between its base sound and your own equalizer settings on a physical slider. Japanese distributor Magway announced it on October 29; Questyle’s website currently lists it as Coming Soon.

Red I want to set up an EQ for a boss theme, then slide back to PURE without reaching for my phone. That switch is what I’d want to play with first.

Nea I’d like to make a saved setting for a favorite orchestral game soundtrack. I’m curious which balance I’d settle on after listening closely to its strings and piano.

A slider for switching, an app for tuning

PURE uses the hardware’s base sound, while TUNE works with the Questyle app for iOS and Android. You can choose a preset equalizer setting or use parametric EQ to adjust individual frequency bands.

Parametric EQ provides controls for frequency, gain and Q, which governs the width of the adjustment. You could add a little bass or reduce a particular frequency range, for example, then save the setting to recall later.

Start with the headphone plug you already use

The MEX has 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced outputs. Choose the jack that matches your existing earphone or headphone plug; having both does not mean you need to replace your cable.

Inside are two ESS ES9219Q DAC chips and four Questyle current-mode amplifier modules. A transparent back reveals the circuitry, while an OLED on the opposite face displays volume, gain, filter, sample rate and playback mode.

A first chance to try it on November 7

The MEX will make its Japanese debut at Autumn Headphone Festival 2026 on November 7, where a public hands-on program is planned. For anyone new to EQ, that could be a chance to compare the modes and check how it fits their existing device and headphones.

Q-Code sharing for sound settings and web-browser control are also planned for future updates.
