Don Quijote’s aisles are becoming the setting for a puzzle hunt spanning its Ikebukuro East Exit Ekimae and Shinjuku stores. Created with escape-game company SCRAP and Rohto Pharmaceutical, 謎にまみれたドン・キホーテからの脱出 opens on November 13, 2026, with a separate free web puzzle arriving a week earlier, on November 6.

Snackgirls react

Red: A Don Quijote aisle as a game map? I want in—and I like the idea of chasing the next clue without a countdown.

Nea: Donpen and the Mentholatum character are an unexpected pair. I’d like to follow their story and see how everyday products fit into it.

Buy at either store, but start in Ikebukuro

You can buy the kit at either participating store, but the game always begins at Ikebukuro East Exit Ekimae and ends at Shinjuku. Buying in Shinjuku does not change that route. The finish is the Shinjuku branch at 1-12-6 Okubo, Shinjuku-ku.

This is a walk-around game with no time limit. The two-to-three-hour estimate includes puzzles and travel, but excludes breaks and shopping. Recommended play hours are 10 a.m.–8 p.m., and transport between the stores is at your own expense.

Each participant of elementary-school age or older needs their own ¥2,200 kit, including tax. The set includes two products: unscented Mentholatum Lip Repair One lip care and Mentholatum Hand Veil hand cream.

Bring a phone—and be ready to play in Japanese

The store game is available only in Japanese. Bring an internet-connected smartphone with plenty of battery and wear comfortable shoes for the walking involved. Before buying a kit, check that your phone meets the official requirements: iOS 18 or later with the latest version of Google Chrome or Safari, or Android 16 or later with the latest version of Google Chrome.

The recommended age is 12 and up, rather than a strict minimum age. Children of elementary-school age or younger must be accompanied by a guardian aged 18 or over.

During the event, photography and video are prohibited both inside and outside the stores unless the game explicitly instructs otherwise. Do not post actual puzzles, kit details or answers online, and be considerate of other shoppers as you play.

The free web puzzle needs no product purchase

Starting November 6, the separate web puzzle will be free to play on a smartphone or PC. Some puzzles use Rohto products as clues, but you do not need to buy them: product images are available through the hints.

Clearing either the store game or the web puzzle qualifies you for a Don Quijote coupon. To receive it, you must download the majica app and register as a member.

You can return to finish another day

Kit sales begin at both stores at 10 a.m. on November 13. Both the store game and the web puzzle run through January 31, 2027.

If you do not finish the store route in one day, keep your kit—you can bring it back and continue on a later day.
