SHANLING EC Play gets a new look in Retro Blue and Mist Purple

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • SHANLING’s EC Play portable CD player has added Retro Blue and Mist Purple in Japan.
  • It can play CDs directly to Bluetooth headphones using SBC; LDAC support applies to receiving audio.
  • Japanese retail is expected at about ¥34,650 including tax, the same as the existing colours.

SHANLING’s EC Play portable CD player gained two colours in Japan on October 30: Retro Blue, pairing a blue body with a silver frame, and muted Mist Purple. These join Black, Silver and Green for five choices in total. The model first launched in Japan in July 2026; its features and included accessories are unchanged.

Snackgirls react

Red I want to pop in a game soundtrack CD and listen on wireless headphones. Picking a physical disc, then leaving the phone out of it—that sounds fun.

Nea I’d like to set Mist Purple beside a soundtrack booklet. I’m curious how that muted shade would look alongside the cover art and liner notes.

CDs to wireless headphones, without a phone

The EC Play can send CD audio directly to Bluetooth headphones, with no phone needed in between. That connection uses SBC only.

Its LDAC, AAC and SBC reception support works in the opposite direction, when the player receives audio from a compatible phone or another sending device. The available codec depends on what that device supports. LDAC reception does not enable LDAC transmission from CDs to headphones.

Wired listening and a separate USB DAC mode

For wired headphones, the player has 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced outputs. Use the output that matches your headphone cable and connector.

In USB DAC mode, it supports up to PCM 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256. Those are USB DAC capabilities, not the resolution of CD playback.

About 12 hours of playback

Continuous playback is rated at about 12 hours, as reported by PHILE WEB. The outlet puts expected Japanese retail at around ¥34,650 including tax, matching the existing colours.
