Shion is the face of the new season

According to Blizzard’s official introduction, Season 3 is set in Tokyo. On the surface, it is bright with neon signs and shopping streets, but underneath it sits the influence of the Hashimoto organization and Talon. The central figure of this season is Shion, the leader of the Hashimoto clan and a new Damage hero.

Shion is introduced with dual semi-automatic pistols, quick dashes, and combat animations that use a motorcycle like a weapon. The official description frames Shion as a new Damage hero built around aggressive movement and pressure. In other words, this is not just a skin season. It is an update where a new hero and a new map change the rhythm of the season together.

Neon Junction arrives as a Tokyo Hybrid map

The new map Neon Junction is a Hybrid map set on the streets of Tokyo. The official introduction highlights arcades, capsule machines, late-night shops, and alleyways. At first, the city’s energy is what stands out, but as the objective moves forward, the darker side of Hashimoto territory is revealed.

Based on the patch notes, the seasonal event Anima Strike is also tied closely to this map. It runs for three weeks from June 16 to July 6, with weekly hubs divided into Neon Junction, Yōkai Hideout, and Hashimoto Headquarters. Each week includes branching paths, story unlocks, and rewards.

The reward events split into two tracks

Anima Strike is a limited-time story-style event. The patch notes list the total rewards as 18 Loot Boxes, 3 Epic Loot Boxes, 3 Legendary Loot Boxes, 3 Voice Lines, 1 Victory Pose, 3 Sprays, 4 Name Cards, 90,000 Battle Pass XP, 5 Titles, 4 Avatars, 2 Ornaments, and 1 Souvenir.

There is also a separate season-long event called the Excavation Initiative. According to the official introduction, players can earn Loot Boxes throughout the season by logging in, playing matches, and completing challenges, with Venture leading the overall season reward flow under an excavation theme.

Changes to check directly in the patch notes

The Season 3 patch notes change not only the content lineup, but also convenience features and the flow of Competitive Play. The Nintendo Switch client may require a longer download because of a rebase, and Advanced Info Panel keywords have been added. Sound options now include volume controls for ally and enemy elimination sound effects, while accessibility additions include high-contrast chat and chat background opacity controls.

In Competitive Play, Hero Bans have been adjusted. Preferred hero information from the roster now acts like a defensive vote during ban voting, and a Lobby Ban slot that combines both teams’ votes has also been added. Live replay viewing for Top 500 Challenger leaderboard matches is now available as well. On the balance side, the perk system received broad adjustments, with numerical changes confirmed for heroes such as Hazard, Reinhardt, and Zarya.

Stadium and the Hero Select screen have also been cleaned up

Stadium has received updates across nearly the entire hero roster, along with major adjustments to several heroes. The official introduction points to Hazard, Tracer, Kiriko, Sojourn, Doomfist, and others as examples, explaining that the direction is meant to encourage players to look for new combinations rather than repeat the same existing builds. Group restrictions in Stadium Ranked have also been removed, and Oasis University has joined the map pool.

The Hero Select screen has been reorganized to fit the expanded hero roster. It includes role filters, larger hero portraits, improved controller navigation, better skin accessibility, and Role/Sub-Role information displays.

New skins: Mythic, Ultra, and shop collections

This season has two Mythic pillars. The hero skin is Ascendant Phoenix Illari, and the weapon skin is Tokyo Rebel Hanzo. Illari’s skin is structured around unlockable stages for wing transformations, color changes, and flame and light effects. Hanzo’s weapon is a bow that mixes neon-street and wanderer imagery, with hologram dragons and effects emphasized around eliminations.

The Battle Pass includes Summer Festival Sombra, Summer Festival Freja, Matsuri Junkrat, Vigilante Genji, and Street Rebel Lúcio. On the Ultimate Battle Pass side, Cyber Biker Shion and Cowpunk Cassidy were mentioned. Skin prices have not been disclosed in the official materials. Before purchasing, check the in-game shop display for individual skin and bundle prices.

A new tier called Ultra Skins has also been introduced in Season 3. The official description explains it as a way to strengthen premium presentation by bundling elements such as custom sounds, visual effects, elimination effects, and ambient animations. The first lineup is Nyan Café Kiriko and Nyan Café Sierra.

The shop collections have two main tracks. Nyan Café adds cat café-style looks for Orisa, Reaper, Ashe, and Bob alongside Kiriko and Sierra’s Ultra skins. Street Rebels runs from June 16 to July 6 and highlights summer streetwear and oni folklore-inspired visuals for Junker Queen, Mercy, Mizuki, Wuyang, and Jetpack Cat.

Snackgirls editor note

Red: “This season is not structured as a new hero, new map, and skin sales all moving separately. Shion, Neon Junction, and Anima Strike are tied together through the same Tokyo line, so there is a clear reason to check in during the first week of the season.”

AIKO: “If you look at skins first, start with the Illari Mythic, the Hanzo Mythic weapon, the Nyan Café Ultra skins, and then Street Rebels. Competitive players should check Hero Bans and the Stadium adjustments first.”
