SANWEAR-HARDWIRE keeps your EQ when you switch devices

SNACK: 3-line summary

  • Modernity has begun selling SAN Sound’s SANWEAR-HARDWIRE USB-C wired earphones in Japan.
  • Sound profiles stay on the earphones’ Audio Cortex module, keeping your EQ settings when you change compatible devices.
  • Your device must support USB-C audio output; Xbox is not supported.

SANWEAR-HARDWIRE keeps your sound profile in its cable-mounted Audio Cortex module, so your EQ follows when you switch between compatible devices. The USB-C wired in-ear earphones are the first product in Modernity’s newly launched Japanese distribution of SAN Sound.

Snackgirls react

Red I’d like to carry one wired pair for a Steam Deck session, then plug it into a PC when it’s time for a match.

Nea I’d love to tune an EQ profile for a favorite game soundtrack and keep it when I change devices. I’d rather get back to the music than keep adjusting sliders.

Set your EQ in Soundscape, then take it with you

The free Soundscape app for iOS and Android lets you adjust EQ, save sound profiles, and customize controls and lighting. With profiles stored on Audio Cortex, you don’t need to recreate your preferred EQ on each compatible source device.

Basic listening works without the app. Customization and firmware updates may require it.

The DAC is already in the cable

The wired connection needs neither charging nor wireless pairing. Audio Cortex combines a DAC, amplifier and digital signal processor, or DSP, in the cable.

In plain terms, the DAC converts digital audio into an analog signal the earphones can play, the amplifier boosts that signal, and the DSP handles sound processing and adjustments. You don’t need to add a separate external DAC for direct connection to a compatible device.

Which devices can you plug it into?

The manufacturer lists PS5, Mac, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam Deck, iPhone 15 and later, Android devices and some VR devices. The requirement is USB-C audio output; having a USB-C port alone does not guarantee compatibility. Xbox and third-party adapters are not supported.

In Japan, SANWEAR-HARDWIRE is available in black or white for ¥18,800 including tax. It is sold through Modernity’s online shop and its official stores on Amazon, Rakuten and Yahoo! Shopping.
