What changes when you open the phone
Netflix’s announced experience lets viewers browse Clips on the outer display and keep watching on the inner display after opening the phone. Clips also adapts between vertical and horizontal views. That is a separate feature from the ordinary Netflix playback shown in Apple’s accompanying image.
Apple also highlights Korean apps. KakaoTalk keeps chat and group navigation alongside the selected conversation, reducing the need to switch back and forth. WEBTOON uses the larger display for reading comics.
Two apps together, or more of one app
Split View allows two separate apps to sit side by side. Individual apps can also expand their own interfaces: Word and Outlook’s enhanced layouts are due in the coming weeks, placing Word’s formatting tools beside a document and Outlook’s inbox next to a full message.
Detail uses the space for a video and its transcript side by side. According to Apple and Detail, its AI models run on the device through Core AI, handling features such as captions, filler-word removal and audio enhancement.
The App Store rollout starts October 23
Apple has scheduled curated App Store collections for iPhone Duo apps and games from October 23. Optimized apps will be identified by a “Made for iPhone Duo” badge on their product pages.
Further app updates are planned throughout the year, so the showcase does not mean every listed update arrives on the first day. Zenless Zone Zero’s iPhone Duo update is scheduled for November, adapting its controls to different ways of holding the phone.
